The Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Examination (MCCQE) is a licensing exam for medical graduates in Canada. It assesses medical knowledge, clinical decision-making, communication skills, and professional behaviours essential for safe medical practice in Canada.

The MCCQE has two parts:

Part I – Computer-based examination covering medical knowledge, diagnostic reasoning, and clinical decision-making.

Part II – Clinical skills OSCE assessing hands-on clinical ability, communication, and professionalism in patient care. (mcc.ca

Canadian medical graduates (CMGs) who have completed their MD or MBBS

International medical graduates (IMGs) with a recognized medical degree who meet MCC eligibility criteria

Applicants must meet language proficiency requirements (English or French) and submit verified medical credentials.

MCCQE Part I is a computer-based exam that tests:

Applied medical knowledge

Clinical decision-making and problem-solving

Use of evidence-based medical guidelines

Ethical and professional responsibilities in patient care

The exam consists of multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and clinical decision-making (CDM) scenarios.

MCCQE Part II is an OSCE-style clinical skills assessment that evaluates:

Patient assessment and diagnostic skills

Clinical management and intervention

Communication and interpersonal skills

Professionalism and ethical practice

It typically involves simulated patient encounters across multiple stations to assess competence in real-world scenarios.

Part I is offered multiple times per year at MCC-approved testing centers worldwide.

Part II is offered in select locations within Canada, and candidates must pass Part I before attempting Part II.

Candidates must demonstrate proficiency through:

IELTS Academic (overall 7.0 or higher) or

OET Medicine (Grade B or higher), or

MCC-approved equivalent tests

Preparation depends on prior medical knowledge. Most candidates spend 3–6 months preparing for Part I and additional weeks for Part II, focusing on clinical skills, OSCE practice, and applied medical knowledge.

After successfully passing MCCQE Part I and Part II, candidates can apply for:

Licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada (LMCC)

Eligibility for Canadian residency programs

A structured MCCQE prep course from IMA helps candidates:
