The Physiotherapy Competency Examination (PCE) is the licensing exam required to practice as a physiotherapist in Canada. It is administered by the Canadian Alliance of Physiotherapy Regulators.

The exam is conducted by the Canadian Alliance of Physiotherapy Regulators (CAPR), which ensures candidates meet national entry-to-practice standards.

Currently, the PCE primarily consists of a written (Qualifying) exam.
The previous clinical OSCE component has been discontinued.

Yes. Internationally educated physiotherapists must complete credential evaluation through CAPR before becoming eligible.

Yes, if applicable. Candidates may need to demonstrate proficiency in English or French, depending on regulatory requirements.

The written exam is conducted multiple times per year, based on CAPR scheduling.

Candidates must meet the passing standard set by CAPR, based on competency benchmarks.

In most provinces, you must pass the PCE (or meet interim licensing requirements where applicable) before practicing independently.

The exam covers:

• Musculoskeletal
• Neurological rehabilitation
• Cardiopulmonary care
• Professional practice & ethics
• Clinical decision-making

IMA helps you master the updated PCE format, practice real exam scenarios, and align with Canadian clinical standards, increasing your chances of success.
